Ok, maybe some other sorts of global accounts? I keep banning the same guy who changes his IP every day.
400 character limit? Am I writing a book?

Ok so I'll put my advice on it.

Teeworlds as came to Steam and still hasn't increased its players number. Also, as teeworlds is a game living with modifications (as Minetest), many people who tried the Steam version out came back to the non-Steam clients, because they are way more useful.

Also, for those that are setting out arguments about more players -> more developpers : NO

1 : Teeworlds still has 4 developpers on it.

2 : Unvanquished as more developpers than players

3 : The arrival of many annoying players would contribute to make actual developpers, as they would destroy the actual community.

4 : Free/open-source is not really pointed out on Steam, so a developper would have to be REALLY REALLY interested by the project (that has only be shown by a little trailer and a little descriptive text) to try to contact developpers. Actually, it's pretty simple for Minetest, but the only action of thinking about that can convince someone not to do it.

5 : Players on Steam are in most case a bunch of eternal noobies, that will never know what a hard-disk is. Most of them are playing on non-free games, and some try out free-games. But in that case, if they try it and they don't like it at first vision, they will not hesitate to post some remark on the Steam page, which will not attract players at all.

6 : Refering to 5, that would more be like a "someday but not today", because if we go on Steam, we won't be able to leave and come back like if nothing had happened. The game will be spotted for ever.

P.S : I didn't take time to read all the post, so excuse me if I missed something ;)

All mods will require Steam's approval, along with every update to the mod, every update to the software, and every individual server will require Steam's approval, and force server administrators to use VAC via DRM, which is not compatible with free software.

Is this actually being considered by the developers?

Yes, MT should stay away from Steam.

A quick google search rendered https://lutris.net/. It is called Lutris, and it is FOSS "Open Gaming Platform".

Add minetest to Lutris will be maybe a good idea

Lutris is a installation game platform with a launcher, it's easy and not Steam...

Desura is pretty much dead. You will likely get more downloads from direct distribution than from Desura.

Do you want hide minetest from peoples? More players = more testers and more developers = more good mods = more good servers = more donators

More people would be great but it needs to be something that gives Minetest more freedom. It is Steams policy that is the issue. Find a service that doesn't limit the freedom of Minetest and there should be no issue with it.
Many of my mods are now a part of Minetest-mods. A place where you know they are maintained!

Do you can post link where "limit the freedom" on steam? I find only this: "Note that once your game has been Greenlit and you are preparing for release, any in-game transactions or subscriptions available to Steam customers must be purchasable only by the Steam Wallet", and this " This e-mail will notify you of your product's Greenlighting and will invite you to begin filling out the digital paperwork" but i think this is not limit the freedom.

Look at the Steam greenlight to see how the process works. The freedom I was referring to is to be able to make changes to the game or mods easily. Also, there is a $100 fee to sign up. Minetest needs an open platform that can easily be updated and can support mods.

While I wish Minetest could be on Steam, I have to agree with this. Putting a watered down version of Minetest on Steam would just give people a bad view of Minetest. If it were easy/cheap to integrate the workshop, then it might be worth it. But I think maybe just putting the word about Minetest out on the steam user group might make more sense.

Where you was find text about hard make changes to the game or mods? Developers is not required to publish their mods, textures packs etc on steam, they can public it on github or minetest forum only.
Please post link to restrictions. 100$ we can to collect from the community if we try.

If I am wrong then please explain how it works. If it is easy for players to get mods and updates then I would be for it. Considering the$100 goes to charity then raising the money should be easy

Hmm, maybe in the description we could point to the website where the Mods are kept? We could do a gofundme, I'd give a fiver.

If player use steam application then updates download automatically or player can update game from official site manually.

You right, we can use steam only for download link and for link to the official site. Quote about mods: "Some of these are hosted on Steam and some are just links to the mod's website".

Without mods or subgames minetest is boring. Minetest is meant to be modded. Having only the default game on steam might cause more harm then good.

I would like to see MT on steam, but now isnt a great time to do so. Minetest lacks content and has some flaws, and publishing it how it is may leave a bad rep. It probably would be seen as "another survival craft game" ...(greenlight is saturated with them). We should wait until the bugs are sorted out and games like Pixture are added to bring more content.
For the money we could make a kickstarter/crowdfunding to publish it, managed by a trustworthy dev.

You will wait always. So you need remove minetest from "Google Play" because
publishing it now it is may leave a bad rep
On Steam many moge bugged and not complited games then minetest, and people playing this. It seems in the guise of the players write here the representatives of the company Mojang, because if Minetest will on Steam they will be deprived part of cash income.

Really? I just wanted to leave my thoughts about this problem. That kind of attitude leads topic to nowhere. Everyone here left legit reasons to avoid it, at least for now.
If you want the game to have the game have negatives review and overall forgotten, fine by me...

minetest is not a "game", it's an engine.
it just happens to not have any games included with the engine except the minimal "minetest_game".

And even as engine falls short, but the thing here is not to avoid just a bad rep, but to be lost along the others. In order to stand out from the crowd it will take more than just being an "engine". At least it should be published with more content than minetest_game. We shouldnt have lower standards because there is sh*t in greenlight.

Steam is for gamers, and I don't think Minetest is good enough as a game yet. Maybe it will be in the future.
