Server view different to Client view

by jmoon224 » Thu Jan 14, 2016 14:46

Hi everyone,

Just recently found Minetest and I'm currently setting it up to use with primary students in an after school club. I've installed it on the school server and made a shortcut available to the client machines (Windows 7).

I then created a Minetest server and joined it on one of the client machines with a test student account. The server user (teacher) can see the pupil character on their screen, and the pupil can see the teacher on their screen, so seemingly they're in the same map, but the map looks completely different for each user.

Am I missing something?

Thanks,
James

It's the same map. The red is caused by shaders failing to compile. OpenGL 1 doesn't even support shaders. OpenGL 1 is pre-2002 iirc, very old.

You need to either update OpenGl or disable shaders on the client on the right.

To disable shaders, go into the main menu, then settings, then untick "enable shaders" on the right.

Ah! Of course!

The image on the right is the server machine running Windows Server 2012 R2. I don't know why it has such an old version of OpenGL. Do you know if it supports newer versions?

Thanks.

a server wouldn't need a particularly good graphics card. It probably won't support newer.
