Renaming Items In-Game

by octacian » Mon Jul 18, 2016 15:04

Somewhere I saw something about mods being able to rename items in game, rather than having to register completely different items just for name variation. Is this possible, if so, how? It would really be useful for books and such.

If it's not possible, it really shouldn't be too hard to adjust the engine to allow this, since only the item indexing system would need to be changed. Maybe it would be more, I'm not sure.

Do you mean allowing item stacks to have different tooltip descriptions, even if they're the same item?

If so, there's a PR but it's not merged yet: Issue #3449: Display custom metadata description instead of node name in tooltip

Yes! That's exactly want I want. Being able to change the actual item description would be nice too, but that would be awesome! Why isn't it merged? (I'll look, just asking because, why not)
