About the mapgen: I meant big, flat, buildable plains. Not just smooooothy pllllllaiiiiiiiiinzzzz.

plantlife modpack (depends on biome_lib) would definitely solve the problem of "bare" terrain. As far as I know, all of the plants it puts on the terrain can be trampled down and built-over without having to clear them off first.

We tortured them for what must at least have been over an hour. All the competent players left out of embarrassment.

Why the hole is so dark?

l edited source code (map.cpp) to be able to place ignore, disappointedly it did not "fuck up" stuff, it behaved like a usual invisible node without sunlight propagation.
So l placed 3x3 ignore and then dug the dirt under it to make a dark hole, which is unusual in minetest because of perpendicular sunlight, so it's usually impossible to make that hole:

Here is a quick guide on how to do it:

This is caused by a lighting issue with lava over map chunk borders.
The platform must be at the top of a mapchunk, with a 1 deep hole in it's surface. There must also be a node above the hole.


The node above the hole doesn't have to be as close as shown in the first image.



Picking up the lava doesn't have to be this precise, but picking it up later means waiting for more lava updates.


The hole must stop the lava in the first node it falls, or it updates the lighting.
The 'yellow thing' is a fence gate, which the player can fall through, but lava can't.

This is actually also useful for lighting, as the node above the hole is still lit and can be filled in without updating the lighting
