Questions About Keyboard Bindings

by TheReaperKing » Sat Aug 27, 2016 20:16

Question #1: I'd like to remove the ability for the students to use F5 for our survival world so that they can't use the coordinates to cheat to navigate. How would I go about doing that?

Question #2: Sometimes my students change the keybindings. I tried to remove the ability to change the key bindings from the menu and in game menu but I was unsuccessful (with the ingame menu at least). Is there a way I can force it to use the default keys? Even if it is when they load the game it resets them to the default, that'd be perfect.

Thank you!! Take care :)

First of all, as long users have access to the computer, there will always be a way to alter the configuration or the program in the way they want, given enough experience and time.

That having said, you can disable the debug key binding by adding the line “keymap_toggle_debug =” to minetest.conf. But you must also replace/remove all existing lines with this text, of course.

Also, why do you want to disable key configuration completely? Jeez, don't dictate what keys users should press. I can understand the desire to disable debug screen (because of cheating) but not the other goal.
I'm creating MineClone 2, a Minecraft clone for Minetest.
I made the Help modpack, adding in-game help to Minetest.

Thanks so much! I think I have to change their actual minetest.conf correct? I can't just do it on the server I believe, hopefully I'm wrong though because that'd be great.

I'd like to disable them changing the keys because lots of other classes use it too and especially when the little kids go to use it they get really confused when someone has changed the keys.

Keyboard bindings are always client-side, so only the local minetest.conf will affect keyboard bindings, of course. The server has no say in keyboard bindings.

By the way, if a Minetest configuration got messed up a lot, and you don't know how to fix it, You might just try to delete minetest.conf. At the next restart, Minetest will start with the default configuration. This will of course delete all other manual configuration as well, so be careful.
