Debug.txt

by irksomeduck » Sat Sep 15, 2012 11:35

Why is this file so HUGE? It takes me ages to open and everyone asks for the last few lines if I have a problem! P.S. Is there a way to speed up the opening?

You can delete it. It will be recreated on MT startup.

If you want to disable it, start Minetest with the appropriate "logfile" option.

Windows (create a .bat file with this):
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
minetest.exe --logfile NUL

Linux (create a .sh file with this, set executable permission with chmod +x):
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
./minetest --logfile ''

"Thanks" from me as well.

I had been playing Minetest for a few weeks before noticing the debug.txt file was larger than any other file in Minetest, including the database. My debug.txt file was weighing in at 348 megabytes.

I'm not savvy enough to understand the debug.txt file so, at the moment, the extra disk space and cpu time it takes to maintain the debug.txt files isn't worth it to me. Thanks to Calinou's information it is easy enough to turn the debug.txt creation off and on (for those times when I'm curious).
