Failure to render terrain at a distance

by furiousnipple » Thu Oct 11, 2012 19:32

Alright so when i open minetest 0.4.3 and i load my world or generate a new world the terrain at a distance doesnt show up until i walk some and it pops up.. i hate pop up terrain and entities, it bothers me so bad lol. What do i need to download to stop this from happening? Perhaps drivers or is there something in the game script i have to mess with to correct this problem? I'm new to minetest but veteran to minecraft.. i would have to say that minetest is super epic and almost exactly like minecraft.. other than the crafting and the creepers that blow the crap out of everything lol. But someone please help me..

It takes some time to build op your surroundings. It depends on how fast your computer (incl. graphics card) is and for servers how fast they are and your and their internet connection.

You can press r for the max. view range. r again to disable max, then you can use - to decrease the distance you can see and (shift) + to increase the distance. But still it takes some (more or less) time to build up.

You can also put lines in your minetest.conf to influence the range and build up:
for example:
viewing_range_nodes_max = 160 # maximum view range (in nodes)
viewing_range_nodes_min = 35 # minimum view range (in nodes)

Alright cool.. i'll try that out. Either way its still good if i cant get my visibility range up. My graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 4200 and i have duel proccessors.. nothing fancy but it should be running pretty good. It can run unreal tournament 2004 at moderate settings.. if it can run that i know it can run this lol. But i'll try that and let everyone know what happens.. i'm sort of new at this, after i get this bug worked out i'm going to start getting textures and some default mods. But overall its a pretty epic game. Thx for the tip

Sweet dude it worked.. thanks for that. My fps is running around 30 - 32. Thats actually a pretty cool feature.. if the fps drops below anything comfortable for the user he/she could just adjust the visibility. Thats cool tho. thx
