Everything is black when I re-enter game

by FiftyOneFifty » Mon Nov 26, 2012 17:38

I set up the game in client/server mode with my own local server. Both client and server are Ubuntu, and I installed from the repos, all settings are defaults with no mods. I played several sessions yesterday, on the last one I jumped back in and the world was black, no point of reference, though my crosshairs and on screen inventory are visible. The full inventory looks like I hacve everything I had in the last working session. The item in my hand is not visibile either, though I can select a torch from the on screen inventory, so I don't think it's because I've dug a hole so deep can't see.

If I had to guess, I'd say my position in the world has been lost in the savegame. I started the server process from an ssh connection from the same client I was playing the game on, and that terminal session said my connection had been lost (which is odd, because I've never seen it do that unless the server went down or the network was interreupted, but I wass able to ssh right back into the server).

If this is an unknown problem, please tell me what files/logs would be helpful and I'll upload them. Otherwise, I'm only a couple hours into the game, but would prefer not loose my inventory, but as I've built no structures it wouldn't hurt to respawn in a random location. If I add mods, wuld I have to restart anyway?

If this is unrecoverable, a quick explanation of how to delete my "character" and start over would probably fix me up.

Thanks in advance.

That could be caused by your player somehow being put inside a block. Try either blindly digging, or, if you have fly privs, press "k" and fly out.

Thanks Menche, that was it all right. Keep down down rather than up, got a little toasted, but found my way back up :)
