I don't think that minetest is aiming for minecraft but all I know is minecraft is laggy.Plus you need "money" just to have fun there while minetest is full free

Okay, that is enough. I like minetest AND minecraft, but both go crazy on my computer. In minecraft i have to level (and fence (and kill all mobs)) large area just to get it playable, and in minetest i have to get rid of all fluids in sight. Reason for this topic is that i dont have knowledge to optimize fluids, but some of you do.

On notebook (Acer TravelMate 2000) not posible. None of my desktops are capable of running minetest (celeron 800, eden 600, pentiumII 380).
p.s. My user pic will get better, i promise :-)

Ouch. I know netbooks are horrible compared to a desktop tower.

I wanted to try Minecraft, but my computer isn't up to it. I have a very old computer. In Minecraft it was just bearable (10fps) until I dug a hole and some water poured into it. Then it became really unresponsive, something like one frame every few seconds. Once I eventually managed to exit the game I removed it and looked for something else.
That something else is Minetest. I've played with both water and lava (buckets are fun!) and I can still actually play. Brilliant!
Unfortunately, Minetest sometimes causes my X server to lock up completely, requiring me to log in over the network to restart X. It's very annoying, but fairly infrequent (it's happened four times in maybe 20 hours' play).

What is your graphics card? If you're using a NVIDIA graphics card, don't use the 304.17 (or so driver), use the 304.51 driver (found in "nvidia-current-updates" in Ubuntu 12.10) or higher.
