I want to setup a minetest server in a VPS with linux. Is possible to install mods like Animals and TNT on the server?

I have read that is possible to install plugins, but anything about mods.
Mods are just Lua; if you're able to install Minetest, you should be able to copy mod folders into ~/.minetest/mods/minetest (or ./mods/minetest if you have a run-in-place version). There are several mods that you must run with the vanilla game (i.e. default), thus it is impossible to set up a Minetest server without being able to install mods.
Unless you have some kind of odd hosting plan that comes along with Minetest but doesn't give you access to the file system? I don't think anyone would expect to be able to sell that…
