I want Minetest to use version 0.4.2 of OpenGL, not 0.4.3.

My computer has OpenGL 0.4.3 in it, but I can't use that version because my video card does not support it. It supports 0.4.2. I have to get Minetest to use 0.4.2 instead of 0.4.3, because if I continue to use 0.4.3, my computer will most certainly blow up.

I don't think I've ever heard of a version of OpenGL below 1.0, and 1.1 was out back in the 1990's. We're currently at the point where most graphics cards support versions in the 3.x range, and very new ones support 4.0 to 4.3. I believe my graphics card only supports OpenGL 3.2, and Minetest runs fine on it.

OpenGL is not software, it's a specification which is implemented by your graphic driver.

Fix: remove your GT 610 and use your CPU's IGP instead, enjoy a performance boost and a downgrade to OpenGL 4.2. :D

Right. Or, rather, it's both. You need a library/driver that supplies a version of the OpenGL specification API (in that sense it is software) and you need a graphics card that supports at least that version of the specification's functionality.

...the internal graphics chip that came with my computer is a GeForce 6150SE. Even before I got my video card, OpenGL was not any easier on my computer. The Sims 3 runs much better with the graphics card that I got than with the internal graphics chip. I think it would be a good idea if Minetest was capable of detecting and using the latest stable version of OpenGL on a person's computer (the newest version that has all of its features supported by the computer and its graphics card.)

Update your video driver. If this still doesn't work then your graphics card is too old.
