Nope. Isn't happening any time soon.

I don't think the developers are planning to work on this sort of thing for the time being. If this is ever to be achieved, someone from the outside world would have to work on it.

I think average computers would have to be considerably more powerful as well. Effects like that are very demanding on CPUs and GPUs.

Currently, Minetest has software lighting. Those effects require hardware lighting. There were discussions in the forums here about hardware lighting and colored light-rays (this too would be needed for those effects,) but those discussions did not go well at all and many well-known individuals left because of them. Please, don't open up old wounds...

The developers are currently stabilizing this game and working on mapgen v7. Those feats in and of themselves are very important tasks.

Issa, you've made this topic so many times. Either use the old ones or stop.

Take a look at the graphics of Terrasology, those are amazing (unfortunately the game itself is not as good as minetest)

PilzAdam wrote:We dont want any.

Sorry, but I think that is the wrong attitude. If we want this game to grow faster, we need more players (this will also attract more developpers etc.) The important issue is that we should not leave behind the people with slower computers, but this game runs extremely well and if graphix enhancing options are disabled automatically when detecting a slower pc on first startup that should not pose any problem.
The main problem is that implementing such graphical enhancements will take time, and it might be better to spend that time on improving gameplay at the moment: NPC's that are included in the main game, bow & arrow support, improving the finite liquid option ... (and of course: squashing bugs ;-) )
If you want nice graphics, you will either have to do it yourself, or wait until other people do it for you.

Concerning the Minecraft players, let us hope that we don't bring over any of the trolls and griefers in that community (Randy The Robot and Team Avolition are notorious examples of such mean individuals.)

Before any such graphics can be added to Minetest (which is extremely unlikely these days,) bugs have to be fixed and the game has to be able to use more than one core of a CPU (two might be good for now, but only if the computer the game is on has a CPU with more than one core.)

This is a side topic I suppose, but it spins off of the ubiquitous desire of many for open source work to overtake proprietary work. In order to get these sorts of things implemented, we need to be able to pay both the people currently working on the project enough to make it worth their while to do it full time as well as new people to expand the base of folks coding. I get the idea that we now have some viable games using Minetest. The trick is to market them using their current licensing and funnel money from that into dev.

That's the crux of the matter for pretty much all of the various, "Can you add this fantastic trait!!??!!11?" sorts of questions in my view.
In order to change yourself, you must believe the change is possible and that there are rewards for making the change.
