A teacher's perspective - this is great for class

by whatdamath » Wed Dec 10, 2014 06:18

I am a math teacher and started using the game as Minecraft alternative in my high school classes.

Kids love it.
This is the video I recently made promoting the game:

I am still not sure whether the kids learn something with gaming or not.
It might be useful for learning english but <snip> We have a seperate topic for this discussion

It's good to let more people know about this game :)
Although, I'm not sure if those are still kids.

When you get to a certain age, anyone more than a few years younger than you is a kid. :-p

Nice video, a good explanation of Minetest. I have never thought of Minetest as a teaching game, but you have a good point about it. It is, in my opinion, better than MineCraft in terms of modding.

Good luck with your class!

Thanks for the video. I was a bit surprised that MT in education can be more than just programming.

I really like your example with TNT. Much more interesting than the text book assignment when i was in school, although the math problems are exactly the same.

I really hope you keep us up-to-date with what your students come up with and how you used MT for non tech stuff.
