Mediumshdaow1 wrote:i edited my last message because i read the forum post about red crabs but when i try to join the server it says that my version isnt supported idk why not i downloaded 0.4.3. from minetest.net and its the same version so whats going on?
Topywo wrote:You best try to install the minetest 0.4.3 with this number 25cf375
I read Sfan5's windows7 version must be good, so here's the link to his page:
http://sfan.sf.funpic.de/minetest-builds/
Edit: Look for it at the top of the page
Mods
I extract/unzip the mods (from the highest zipped directory/folder) in the following folder on my linux:
/home/TOPYWO/celeron55-minetest-25cf375/mods/minetest
So the minetest directory under the mods directory.
When you find a file called "mods_here.txt" in it you know you placed the mods on the right place. (Still you can get errors, but most are easy solvable. Most common is that you rename the modsfolder to the mods name without the name of the author and without the 'serial' number and no CAP'S)
Furnace
"a furnace and something to heat it up (tree, wood, coal)"
Dig a tree (can be done bare-handed) and put or the leaves or the tree (trunk) left under in your furnace. put sand left above. The furnace starts working (animated fire with tree, no fire with leaves). In the upper-left slot of the 4 slots to the right there will appear glass
http://wiki.minetest.com/wiki/ --> the wiki page where you can find what and how to craft and smelt (and lots of other usefull stuff)
Mediumshdaow1 wrote:so the one i downloaded from minetest.net isnt the most updated version?
I guess so, I use Linux. For me personal it's the easiest to compile minetest it as described in the readme.txt. Whenever I compile I automatically get the latest version. So I don't have experience with precompiled and automatic installing minetests.
and if download the one provided in that link would i be able to tranfer my current world ive been working so hard on? i finally found lava around 2-3 comments ago on this post and i even found alot of mese and i dont want to loose my data.
Yes, I know worlds can be saved. Only I myself don't know how. I mostly use singleplayer worlds to try out new mods and stuff so I delete easily. Regularly I see posts about transfering worlds, but I couldn't find them now with search. They might be hidden under different topics. There are forum members that can inform you correctly about using older worlds. I hope they will help you with this. For me, whenever I install a new minetest, the old minetest with a different serial number, stays on my computer, so I don't lose anything.
i have underground and underground chest so people cant steal my rare items if i go online and i have back secret back ups lol.
When you go online, you'll join the world the server provides. So the map is not one of yours, but the servers. The mods are those chosen by the server, not your mods (you don't even have to have installed those mods!). Even the texture pack is provided by the server, but that one you can change. Only if you make a server (difficult) and allow players on your world with the hidden chests, they might steal it. In that case just ban them and use /give, worldedit mod, creative or whatever to give yourself your stuff back.

You can use trees, wooden planks, coal lumps, cacti, papyrus and many other wooden objects as fuel.Mediumshdaow1 wrote:right now im working on making flint lol
There's no flint in Minetest.

I got curious and clicked the link http://sfan.sf.funpic.de/minetest-builds/c55/minetest-0.4.3-25cf375-extrafilters-win32.7z
It downloaded 4.3 MB in my download folder. Doubleclicking on that I saw a folder which I could extract. So I tried in a experimental folder. It neatly appeared there, and doubleclicking on it, I saw the folders: bin, builtin, doc, games, mods and textures and the file minetest.conf.example. Total of 19,5 MB. Off course I tried it, but it didn't work on my Linux, which is logical.
It is a .7z file (zeven zip I thought). Could it be tat you don't have the software installed to unzipe .7z files?
Topywo wrote:You tried it like this:
/giveme obsidian:obsidian_block 99
/giveme obsidian:obsidian_shard -1
?
If placed in the wrong directory, mods don't give an error. If placed in the right directory, but there's a dependency missing or the name is not correct, it gives an error.
Mediumshdaow1 wrote:no i have not but i will try now also why doesn't the obsidian have a name on the block?
one last question is there a way to label things like on minecraft?
