can'T connect to server or save world

hello i am new at this game and i have 2 problems.the frist everytime i close the game the game world deletes and im getting pretty mad.and when i try to connect to a server it stays on the connecting to server. thank you for reading this and please help me with my problem

2 possible solutions:

1. Did you unzip/extract the minetest zip (what you should do) or playing it directly from a zip (which can cause those problems)
2. Check if your minetest_game folder is in the minetest folder (same folder as where the minimal folder is), where it belongs.

yeah my game files save now but i still cant connect to servers

Here's a list of servers with their links, so you can find out which version of minetest you need for a server (It's under servers, sticky, servers monitoring service):

Edit:
Name is the ingame name you choose to use., password a password you make up
Adress is the IP adress or a (combination of) word(s) of the server (see under adress in the first link), port is the number, not always 30000

You tried my suggestions in post 2?

If they didn't work:
- what operating system do you use (Windows/Mac/Linux) and version/specification.
- Which minetest version (and serial number) are you using (for example 0.4.3, 25cf375)

I have Windows 7 and I use Minetest 1.4.3. I dont know the serial number though.
Also, your suggestions in Post 2 sadly have not worked for me :/

Maybe you should try to reinstall minetest. If you already didn't try, I can recommend Sfan5's build

I use Lubuntu, but understand from the forums that this a very good build.
